Melbourne is a beautiful city with a rich culture and amazingly friendly people that are quick to offer a smile. What I loved most about Melbourne was their food! I am an absolute, self-proclaimed “foodie” and will do just about anything for a great breakfast. Give me a great cup of coffee and a jiving atmosphere and the rest of my day has been made!
My favourite part about finding the best places for breakfast in Melbourne is the adventure of trying new foods and meeting new people.
The restaurants on this list are the best of the best. Whether you are looking for a high class, premier breakfast or something cheap to keep you on your vacation budget you can find something for you.
The Kettle Black
The perk of this amazing restaurant is the chef’s table on the upper terrace, this costs extra but the experience is top notch! With an elegant décor of white marble with gold and green accents you will feel like you are royalty as you dine on dishes like coconut yoghurt, ash rolls, and locally sourced kelp salt.
This is a cheap café that is interestingly made out of recycled shipping containers. They may skimp on price but they definitely don’t skimp on food quality or flavour! Smoked trout with eggs and pickled fennel will melt in your mouth as you sit outside on the veranda under a nice big umbrella. Sit back, relax, and take in the ambiance.
Archie’s All Day
If you love Bluebird Espresso Café then you will love Archie’s because they are run by the same team. Dirty eggs of tater tots, black beans, salsa, fried egg, chipotle mayo, and jalapeno cheese were my absolute favourite here. I was so stuffed that I couldn’t eat another bite! Breakfast is served until 3pm and lunch starts at 10am so if breakfast isn’t your thing then check out their amazing burgers!
The Grain Store
The environment inside this restaurant reminds me of growing up on the farm and is an absolute gem of a breakfast spot. It is run in a space that was used previously as a shipment holding store. Bacon is cured out back behind the barn doors that lead to the kitchen. Don’t let the farmhouse atmosphere fool you though because the food is perfect for city palates! The best part about The Grain Store is that you can call ahead and make reservations so you don’t have to wait forever for a table. I would definitely recommend calling ahead!
The Farm Café
This adorable café is located inside the Collingwood’s Children Farm and you can watch peacocks roam free as you enjoy a Super Salad with molasses dressing and lemon cashew hummus. Observe children chasing after goats and other farm animals while enjoying some of the best breakfast in the city. The prices here are very reasonable and they are located right next to the Yarra Trail if you would like some exercise following your yummy breakfast.
Melbourne has so much to offer the weary traveler as well as the locals. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day according to most dieticians and nutritionists so why not start your day off right with a great cup of coffee or tea and enjoy a great atmosphere.
Have you tried any of these locations for breakfast? We would love to hear your thoughts!
